‘Emily in Paris’ actor Lucien Laviscount, who plays Alfie, compared the show to Pixar film, ‘Inside Out’. In an exclusive chat with IndiaToday.in, Lucien addressed concerns over Alfie’s absence from the first part of the season. He also claimed to be the ‘emergency contact’ for the cast of Emily in Paris.

One of the common reactions from the audience after watching the first part of Season 4 has been how Alfie was absent in the last two episodes. But is he gone for good? Lucien shared, “Alfie sticks around. He is still around. He will be back in the second part of the season. I think after the bombshell that happened around the end of Season 3. I think it’s a vulnerable series and season for Alfie. He is definitely wearing his heart on his sleeve, so he needs a little bit of time to get himself back together. The second part of the season sees him back in action, doing his usual.”

Explaining how this season has been a rollercoaster of emotions to play with for Alfie, Lucien mentioned, “It was lovely to go through Alfie’s journey this season because it is good to see a male actor getting to be vulnerable and to kind of figure things out. I see the show as the movie ‘Inside Out’. It is almost like these characters have all these decisions to make, but as human beings, we go through them internally. On the show, we get to see all kind of ideas, which they think they might or might not do. I resonate with Alfie a lot. I think I would like him to be my friend.”

When asked about his bond with the rest of the cast, Lucien told IndiaToday.in, “Going on set in Paris, shooting with them, is truly one of the most incredible experiences that no one else will ever have. I have that. My memories are mine and no one can take these memories away from me, and it’s been wonderful and amazing. Everyone is so supportive. We all kind of fit into different roles. I guess in any friendship group or family, everyone can take a different role.”

We asked him what role he takes on in the ‘Emily In Paris’ group, off-camera. Lucien shyly added, “I don’t know. I think you will have to ask the guys that. We had a press to do last week before the premiere, and we all kind of sat down together, during the quick-fire questions, Lucas [Bravo, who plays Gabriel) mentioned how I was everyone’s emergency contact. If they needed me in an emergency, I was their contact, which was quite nice. I’m glad that people feel that they can depend on me in that respect. Honestly, it’s been one of the greatest experiences of my life.”

Alfie, this season, has gone major through ups and downs. As Lucien, how does he deal with them in real life. The actor prompted, “Something that I abide by in my life is that when one door closes, other opens. Especially in this industry, where you constantly get hit by ‘no’, you kind of develop a thick skin that allows you to be in fire and embrace the down part of life. In this job where you hear ‘no’ more than ‘yes’, it is crazy sometimes that you smile when you hear the next ‘no’.”

He explained that this shift in his attitude towards embracing life came when he realised he could not control anything. “I’m not in control of 90% of the things in my life, but the one thing I’m in control of is my happiness. In an industry where your happiness is equated to success, one needs to know that other people’s opinions are not a reflection of your talent. I think that even when I’m quite down or having a bad day over whatever is going on, I force myself to smile and it instantly makes me feel a little bit better," he said.

“I have realised the only three things I can control in life are driving, writing and smiling,” Lucien concluded.

‘Emily in Paris 4’ stars Lilly Collins, Lucas Bravo and Ashley Park in pivotal roles. The first half of the show released on August 15 on Netflix. The remaining episodes will stream from September 12.
