1970 Ford F100 Short Bed Pickup
"Ford pickups work like trucks, ride like cars. And these '70 Fordpickups are full of proven better ideas for solid work and a carlike ride. Ford's strong, functional design makes the work easierand the truck lasts longer. Chassis and sheet metal are designedfor on the job durability and dependability." From the 1970 Fordtruck sales brochure.
For consignment, a 1970 Ford F100 short bed pickup whichsubstantiates Ford's 1970 claim of "riding like a car" with theaddition of a Coyote V8 under the hood! Back in '70, the best youcould do on an F100 was 255 horsepower with a 390ci V8. At minimum, the Coyote 5.0 liters churns out 360hp and has potential for muchmore.
Exterior
With a canine tucked under the hood, the exterior hides a wolfunder sheep's clothing, looking very much like your average worktruck from 1970. Of course, the 18-inch American Racing TorqueThrust wheels with 45 series tires are like having dog paws pokingfrom beneath the wool and hints of illicit intent. But up above, the Wimbledon White truck looks farm ready, and its Ranger XLTstatus puts woodtone inserts in its bright side molding and awoodtone tailgate panel on its styleside body. Front and rearchrome bumpers are straight and true and the eggcrate grille isclassically American, vertical and strong with round headlights insquare bezels at its flank. The bed is rhino coated in black andthe solid rear window is topped by a bed light. The metal work, paint, and emblems are in great shape and imperfections notedinclude some general fading and chipping of the black accent paintaround trim and emblems, chipped paint, bubbling, and slightsurface rust under the rocker panel, other spots of bubbling.
Interior
An interior by TMI updates the inside including the stitchpatterned door cards that include a pleated map pocket on eachside. The split bench is a great upgrade as it provides integratedbolstering and side support in a continuous flow of red leatherwith dark thread stitching. With a large red center console added, there won't be any old school side by side shotgunning in this cab,but at least you'll both be super comfortable on your individualsides. A fat sporty steering wheel leads to Dakota Digitaldashboard which retains some of the period that mixes with moderndisplays and capabilities. The center of the dash wears Wimbledonwhite and houses an AM/FM radio, a retro sound system that playsthrough speakers in the center console, and A/C controls. Red loopcarpet covers the floor, and a perforated headliner is above andwould have been standard on the XLT and touted for its soundabsorption.DrivetrainLooking right at home under the hood is asuper clean 5.0 liter Coyote V8, fuel injected and tied to a 6R806-speed automatic transmission. Power, and likely lots of it, issent to the Ford 9 inch axle out back. To haul those horses in,power disc brakes are supplied at each wheel, while headers providethe exhalation process.
Undercarriage
Very clean underneath where the big exhaust system joins by H-pipeon its way to meet Borla mufflers, then the trail the length of thetruck to exist discreetly behind the quarter panels. The gas tankis rear mounted with filler in the bed. Suspension here is coilsprings in front and leaf spring, semi-trailing arms and coil-oversthe back. The knuckles and wheel components are free of grease anddebris and surface rust present is mostly reserved for the framerails.
Drive-Ability
A cabin more comfortable than just about any 1970 interior providesthe perch for a truck that truly feels like a car on wide 45 seriestires. The exhaust provides a healthy growl and the engine providesfor notable acceleration and the truck handles, stops, and tracksin stellar fashion. All systems work on the truck and this one isready to go! While Classic Auto Mall represents that thesefunctions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannotguarantee these functions will be working at the time of yourpurchase.

It'sready for a new den to call home, and someone behind the wheelwho's ready to catch red light prey off guard when the light turnsgreen. Watch out, Roadrunners!
