Helen Chamberlain fronted Sky Sports favourite Soccer AM for a whopping 22 years before parting ways with the show in 2017. As a Soccer AM spin-off launches, Mirror Sport breaks down what 'Hell's Bells' is doing now
Helen Chamberlain is best known for being the friendly face of Soccer AM, but what's she up to nowadays?
Nicknamed 'Hell's Bells' by her fellow Sky Sports presenters, the 57-year-old fronted the Saturday morning show between 1995 and 2017, before ultimately parting ways with the fan favourite to enjoy her farm life.
Lloyd Griffith, John Fendley and Jimmy Bullard ultimately took over hosting duties for the weekend staple after Chamberlain's exit, until the show was booted by Sky Sports at the end of the 2022/23 Premier League campaign - much to the dismay of viewers across the UK.
However, fan favourite James Long (aka Rocket) recently announced that the show would be revived under a different format in a new YouTube show called Soccer PM - which takes a stroll down memory lane and reflects on classic moments from the show.
In honour of the classic show somewhat making a comeback, the Mirror Sport reflects on the life of Helen Chamberlain and what she's up to away from the limelight - from a farm life and metal detecting, to her respectable net worth...
An exit from Saturday morning television
Despite being the show's longest-running host in history, Chamberlain parted ways with Soccer AM in 2017 to enjoy a life away from the limelight. She was working as a Bluecoat at Pontins and as an announcer at Chessington World of Adventures when she was spotted by a Nickelodeon producer, before launching her career in presenting in 1994.
The very next year, Chamberlain was asked to front Soccer AM in its maiden year on screens alongside Tim Lovejoy, and the rest is history. Elsewhere, the loveable host also worked on the likes of Channel 4's Big Breakfast, Sky's very-own poker channel and Channel 5's Live and Dangerous.
Ultimately, Hell's Bells decided to step away from her duties as Soccer AM host after 22 years in 2017, with the show writing at the time: "Farewell and thank you to Mrs Soccer AM. This place won't be the same without you."
Explaining her decision to leave the show which had gave her so much in 2020 meanwhile, Chamberlain told The Athletic: "I spent nearly half my life sitting on that sofa. I was there for nearly 23 years. That's a long time to have any job, never mind a job in broadcasting. I had the farm to see to. I wanted to rescue more dogs and breed sheep and chickens. So I didn't have time for Saturday mornings anymore."
Life after TV
While she has dabbled in presenting in the world of darts after her Soccer AM exit, Chamberlain has enjoyed mostly a quiet life with her family on her farm. The star regularly takes to social media to share snaps of her donkeys and sheep - as well as her adorable dogs.
As well as enjoying agriculture, the Somerset-born star also has a passion for metal detecting - regularly sharing photographs of her Nokta Legend on various pastures and beaches looking for hidden treasures. Some of her best finds that she has shared with her humble 6,600 followers include a damaged crotal bell, a farthing coin, a silver sixpence, a David II Scottish penny from the 1300s and some stunning Italian jewellery.
A keen darts player, Chamberlain also sometimes takes to X to share snaps at professional events, as well as her own skills on the board. She has previously competed at pub league level, becoming the Woking and Dirstrict Ladies' Darts Singles champion in 2012.
She was back on TV screens in recent years on TNT Sports, with the World Seniors Darts Championship.
Helen Chamberlain net worth
Thanks to her endeavours in presenting, it is reported that Chamberlain has racked up an incredible net worth of around £9.8million ($13m) according to networthlist.org, though it is unclear how accurate those reports are.
Elsewhere, she is a massive fan of poker, competing in the Poker Million tournament back in 2005 - pocketing a cool £325,500 for her second place finish. With the money, she bought racehorse, Birkspiel, who won its first race in Baden-Baden, Germany, under Simon Dow.
Overall, she has also owned Napoletano - a flat racer - and sprinter Merlin's Dancer, but all three horses have since retired from the sport. Apart from cameos from a donkey dentist, darts star Luke Humphries, and Saturday Social presenter Bobbie Chahal, Chamberlain has been quite quiet on social media as of late. It is understood that she is not married and has no children.
